Richard Robinson's artistic beginnings started by whittling wooden figures and chip carving as his father had done before him. He extended his interest to building wood furniture to include wood turnings made on a lathe. At a crossroad in his life, he volunteeered at Sutter's Mill, the Gold Discovery Site, Coloma, California in the historic Blacksmith Shop. There, he apprenticed and became an accomplished Blacksmith under the guidance of William Curry. He bent and twisted metal over a coal forge and pounded the hot iron on the anvil to form some truly beautiful but functional creations. Some of the creations include candlesticks, towel bars, tissue holders, hooks of all kinds, kitchen hardware, quilt rods, quilts stands and quilt ladders, curtain hardware, wood stove rakes, log holders, exterior gates and railings and anything else the mind can imagine. Bitterroot Handcrafted Metal Art Most of his work is derived from custom orders; unique items customers contract Richard to make. Products are available in traditional black or a variety of colors such as antique pewter, oil rubbed bronze, rust but please no Pink.
